About the Position
We are seeking a Specialist Surveyor operator dedicated to 3D real world data capture, to produce 3D models and datasets for various engineering, hydrographic and planning requirements. The position will be responsible for the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of 3D projects, end-to-end management of 3D datasets, improvement and implementation of 3D data capture systems and working as part of a team to solve technical problems.
The position requires a high level of expertise in 3D reality capture utilising terrestrial laser scanning, mobile laser scanning, UAV LiDAR, UAV imagery and bathymetry data collection using vessel mounted single and multi-beam echosounders. A requirement of this position will be to assist with the delivery of internal and external hydrographic and engineering survey works such as vendor auditing and internal QA where necessary.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Undertake and/or manage minor, moderately complex and complex multi-disciplinary:
surveys for set out of construction works and capture as constructed survey data using sound project management methodology predominantly associated with water bodies. E.g. boat ramps, foreshore works, boardwalks etc.
Hydrographic surveys including coastal survey for monitoring and modelling the ocean and beaches, the City’s system of canals, inland waters and lakes and associated infrastructure.
Prepare or supervise the preparation of hydrographic and engineering survey plans and processing of associated survey data.
Support and/or drive internal initiatives that contribute to long-term operational excellence.
Manage assigned projects and tasks allocated to resources to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, to a quality standard and meet customer requirements and expectations.
Provide supervision of daily activities and on-the-job training to any subordinate survey staff.
Train key staff in:
the procedures and processes for hydrographic and engineering surveys
new surveying equipment and/or software as required
Contribute to the development of surveying documentation including surveying procedures and safety manuals for Quality Assurance and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
Conduct surveys to contribute to and improve the State survey control network.
Provide advice associated with scanning for external surveys in consultation with the Coordinator Cadastral Surveys and External Surveyors where required.
Provide specialist technical advice to the Infrastructure Delivery Branch, the Directorate and Council articulating concepts in ‘Plain English’, ensuring consistency and clarity of advice to ensure the integrity of the project objectives.
Contribute to the development and delivery of business improvement projects, to improve survey services practices and procedures.
Participate in the assessment and selection of new surveying equipment and/or software and development and review of associated survey procedures.
Liaise with Senior Surveyors to advise of equipment maintenance issues in line with Survey Services equipment maintenance schedule.

You are a strong team player with a ‘can do’ attitude in an environment of competing priorities. You have highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills ensuring consistency and clarity to provide advice relevant to survey practices. You will bring your knowledge and experience to this role including:
Well-developed supervisory experience including the ability to develop and motivate staff, provide expert advice and set and monitor project outcomes.
Well-developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills with the ability to contribute to the development of new techniques and methodologies, as they apply to surveying.
You will have a Bachelor or Degree in Surveying (or equivalent qualification) and significant experience in 3D scanning, hydrographic and engineering surveying.
You will have a current registration as a Surveying Associate or above with the Surveyors Board of Queensland or the ability to gain registration.
You will have a current ‘C’ class Driver’s Licence (Manual)
