Henry Wade Memorial Plaque unveiled in Sunbury

Following two yearsʼ work and much planning, the ISVʼs final Sesquicentenary event for 2024 was the unveiling of new plaque honouring pioneering surveyor Henry Wade. Working closely with the Wade family descendants and Surveyor-General Victoria who in turn coordinated with Hume City Council to locate a most generous position in the Village Green for the installation, the plaque was unveiled by Great Great Grandson Peter Wade, Jarrod Bell MP and Mayor of Hume Council Jarrod Bell on Tuesday 10 December.

Defining the Shrine Vista Viewing Point

The Shrine Vista is a planning control that resides within the Melbourne, Stonnington and Port Phillip planning schemes. The purpose of this control is to ensure that the Shrine of Remembrance is seen against a clear sky with no built structure visible within the specified “Vista Zone”.   The Shrine Vista regulations were originally introduced as a modification to the Metropolitan Melbourne Board of Works  (MMBW) Interim Development Ordinance 1961. More recently the controls were determined by the MMBW Shrine Vista Computations Engineering Manual published in June 1986.
