Defining the Shrine Vista Viewing Point
21 January 2025
The Shrine Vista is a planning control that resides within the Melbourne, Stonnington and Port Phillip planning schemes. The purpose of this control is to ensure that the Shrine of Remembrance is seen against a clear sky with no built structure visible within the specified “Vista Zone”.
The Shrine Vista regulations were originally introduced as a modification to the Metropolitan Melbourne Board of Works
(MMBW) Interim Development Ordinance 1961. More recently the controls were determined by the MMBW Shrine Vista Computations Engineering Manual published in June 1986.
